Healthy fats are completely misunderstood and in my series the 31 Days of Clean Eating, Meal Planning and Prep. Today is all about my five top healthy fats I use in my kitchen.
Before I knew much about a healthy balanced diet, I thought all fats were bad and should not be use.
Then I found out from learning more how to fuel my body with the right foods that there were such a thing as healthy fats.
Why Healthy Fats?
Why do we need healthy fats in our diet?
Healthy fats provide essential fatty acids for our body, they help make your skin soft and hair not look so dull.
They help protect your organs and give you more pack for your punch then proteins or carbs when it comes to energy.
Healthy fats are all around good for you, but you do want to make sure you don’t eat too much of them and keep them to no more then 25% of your diet.
My Five Top Healthy Fats
Avocados
I love to eat them plain, I use them in desserts, I make them in pudding, I use avocado oil for cooking you name it we love avocados.
Nuts
I love nuts as a healthy fat. The nuts we eat the most of are cashews and almonds.
Cashews I eat plain, add to salads and even use as frosting or the base for desserts.
Almonds we use as milk, in baking, and also in various salads and meals.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
We use EVOO all the time in our cooking because it is healthy, the flavor is wonderful and also is perfect to use when doing rubs on fish or meat.
Fish
We love fish in this house and eat it at least once a week in our home. Who does not like a nice salmon fillet once in a while.
Flax
I am personally a huge fan of flax seeds and flax oil.
I use flax oil in my morning shakes because it is known to help fight depression.
I also love to use flax in my baking and love to sprinkle it on my salads too.
There are many more healthy fats, but these are my top five healthy fats that I use in my diet and feed my family.
