One thing I have learned in the past couple of years is how important it is to set goals. Long term, short-term, even day-to-day mini goals, but in this post I am going to talk about setting goals you can achieve and master in the new year.
Be Realistic and Set Smart Goals!
I have to be honest and say up until lately I have been hesitant to set any goals. According to my husband I am way too much of an overachiever and because of that I set myself up for failure.
To make sure I understood what good goal setting was I read articles, listened to podcasts and prayed about what would be the right goals for me this year business and personal wise.
One thing I learned from my research is instead of picking a lot of goals like I have done in the past, try to only pick three main goals.
Yep, only three goals which may seem like not enough, but if you were like me last year, then you made eight fabulous goals, crushed two of them, never got to the other three and left and half-assed the rest leaving you feeling like a bit of a failure.
In reality I was an overachiever with limited resources and time who was crazy to think she could ever accomplish three let alone eight of those goals.
The reason you choose only three big goals is because it is doable. Out of those three goals you make one goal your main focus and the other two are important, but only side goals.
By creating one goal that gets the most attention you can dive head first into ensuring you do everything you can to make it happen.
After realizing I was making too many goals I sat down and wrote out what was the most important in my life business wise and personally.
One huge goal of mine is to finally learn social media. better. It changes so fast that it is hard for me to keep up, which is why I am only choosing three platforms to really get good at in.
Another goal is to rebrand my blog Inspired Housewife and get back to writing more regularly.
In the past I would have added on several more goals to this, but this year I do not want to feel behind at the start gate.
In this next few weeks when you are thinking about your goals remember to sit down and think about what is most important, write your goals down, then out of what you wrote pick your top three.
Afterwards, make one your main focus and get to work crushing your three goals. Of course you can have separate personal goals from business goals, but be smart and choosy where you spend the bulk of your time and attention.
Have you set your goals yet?
Are you ready to make this the best year ever?
