Teach Your Child How To Swim at Home

Inspired-Housewife: Teach Your Child How to Swim at Home

I grew up taking swimming lessons practically every summer as a small child. Now that I have children, learning to swim is a must for them also.  My husband and I are on a tight budget, and the distance to drive 30+ minutes one-way makes formal swimming lessons not feasible for our children.

Learning to swim is important because we have a seasonal pool.  I want my children to feel secure in the pool and know how to stay above water.  Last summer my husband and I researched and since then found several helpful videos and links to teach children how to swim.   Our children are still young, and by the end of last summer our son Tristan, who was four at the time, knew how to kick and make his way around the pool pretty well.  We are reteaching him and his sister this summer.  Here are some of the links we found helpful in teaching our kids how to swim and stay safe in the pool.

  1. Thanks for the great post. My son is only 7 months old but he loves the water. I can’t wait to teach him how to swim. Thank you.

    • Hi Luke,

Thank you I hope the information can help and before you know it your son will be driving. I feel like I gave birth last year to my 5 year old. 🙂 Amee

  2. What a great idea! Isn’t the internet so helpful. I am often “googling” how to do this or that! Thanks for sharing these links on my blog. I’m sure they were enjoyed by my readers!

  3. We are still working on this ourselves. I will have to look into these sites. Both of my boys are pretty scared of water and are not allowed in the pool without a life jacket on. We do not have a pool of our own so they aren’t around it enough every year to really “get it” yet.

    • Hi Misty,
Yeah it is a total work in progress with my kids. My son a month ago would not even get in the pool with his father holding him. Now he wears the arm float things and walks across our pool on his tippy toes. Thanks for checking me out and the links are really helpful I am sure there are even more out there, but these are the ones we have used so far. Amee
